APC USA Warns NADECO USA Against Press Conference on President Tinubu's Academic Certificate

Date: October 19, 2023

The United States chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC USA) issued a stern warning on Sunday night, cautioning the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) USA against proceeding with its planned press conference regarding the controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu's academic certificate from Chicago State University. According to APC USA, the university has already confirmed the authenticity of the certificate.

This warning comes in response to an earlier announcement by David Adenekan, the Publicity Secretary of NADECO USA, that the group intended to hold a world press conference to investigate and shed light on the alleged forgery of President Tinubu's Chicago State University certificate. The purpose of this event, scheduled for Monday, was to provide journalists and the international community with the opportunity to ask questions and delve into the matter.

In a statement on Sunday night, Prof Tai Balofin, the Chairman of APC USA, strongly condemned NADECO USA's move, describing it as an attempt to vilify the President. Balofin argued that the matter concerning President Tinubu's educational certificate has already been addressed, with Chicago State University confirming its authenticity. Moreover, he emphasized that this matter is currently under the jurisdiction of the appropriate authorities, specifically the courts, which will follow due process and legal procedures.

Balofin expressed the view that it was inappropriate for NADECO USA, which he labeled a phony group, to discuss a matter that is already the subject of legal proceedings. He went on to say, "The allegation surrounding President Tinubu's educational certificate from Chicago State University has been addressed, with CSU confirming the certificate's authenticity. It is crucial to note that this matter is already in the hands of the appropriate authorities, specifically the courts, where due process and legal procedures will be followed."

The Chairman of APC USA also urged the supporters of other political candidates, such as the Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the Peoples Democratic Party's Atiku Abubakar, to await the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling regarding this matter.

Furthermore, Balofin sought to clarify that the group organizing the World Press Conference under the banner of NADECO USA is not the same NADECO that President Tinubu was part of during the Abacha era. He urged the public not to be misled by attempts to distort history, emphasizing that premature and unfounded allegations not only do a disservice to the public but also risk diverting attention from pressing issues that genuinely deserve scrutiny.

In conclusion, APC USA asserted its unwavering commitment to safeguarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reputation and, by extension, that of Nigeria. They expressed their belief in the strength of democratic processes and the judicial system to address legitimate concerns. The organization encouraged the group associated with NADECO USA to engage in constructive dialogue and allow the legal system to take its course in addressing any genuine concerns. This statement underscores the importance of due process and respect for the rule of law in addressing matters of national significance.
